External pacing / transcutaneous pacing
- place external pads on
- start at 10 mA, and increase current by 10 mA until electrical capture
- usually around 40 mA
- seen on screen as a pacing spike followed by QRS
- add ~10 mA above threshold for safety margin = 50 mA
- uncomfortable
- patients usually cannot tolerate > 50 mA without sedation
- target rate 60-80 bpm = default 70 bpm
